RGE Chairman Sukanto Tanoto recently donated 200,000 children’s books to a public library in Rizhao, China.

This RMB 5 million (USD 760,000) gift followed a RMB 30 million (USD 4.5 million) donation he made in May 2010 for the library’s construction. The latter was the largest single donation Rizhao has received.

Mr Tanoto’s toured the public library on May 29, and felt the children’s section could be better stocked to meet patrons’ demands. He later made a donation of 200,000 books on June 1, commemorating International Children’s Day.

The library officially opened on Dec 26, 2015, serving more than 7,900 patrons daily. Over 1.07 million have visited the library to-date. Having not been able to finish school himself, Mr Tanoto has for decades emphasised the importance of education and continuous learning through his business leadership and philanthropic activities.

A RMB 20 billion (USD 3 billion) investment agreement on the comprehensive utilisation of clean energy was struck between Pacific Oil & Gas and the government of Rizhao on May 30, 2016.

The project includes a liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal with 2 million tonnes of annual circulation volume, two 160,000 cubic-metre LNG storage tanks, a 100,000-tonnage LNG wharf and a combined heat and power generation plant comprising six 9F generator sets.

The project is expected to facilitate energy upgrading, promote industry transformation, and contribute to environmental governance and ecological development in Rizhao and and most of Shandong Province.
