RGE 2021 Highlights

From the opening of the world’s largest and greenest pulp mill in Brazil to progress on our sustainability commitments around the world, 2021 was an outstanding year for RGE. The group solidified its place operating at the heart of the bio-economy in the world’s fastest growing markets.

Our sustainable natural fibres, edible oils, green packaging and clean natural gas continue to be used to create products that feed, clothe and energise the world.

Apical Dumai

An aerial view of Apical’s operations in Dumai, Indonesia. Apical. In October 2021, Apical Group secured its first sustainability-linked loan, borrowing US$750mn from a consortium of 22 banks led by First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB). The palm oil producer was also rated the second most transparent palm oil company globally in the SPOTT (Sustainable Palm Oil Transparency Toolkit) Assessment 2021, improving from a score of 82.5% in 2020 to 89.4% in 2021, moving up the ranks from eighth to second place.

Bracell World's Largest and Greenest New Generation Pulp Mill São Paulo

Bracell completed construction of the world’s largest and greenest new generation pulp mill in São Paulo which uses cutting-edge technology for fossil fuel-free generation.

RGE TAFF NTU

RGE has formalised two new partnerships in Singapore to advance sustainable fashion. The first is a three-year strategic partnership with the Textile & Fashion Federation to advocate sustainable industry practices within Singapore and the region, through programme implementation, research, and education. The second is a five-year research collaboration with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore on innovation in textile recycling technology.

Pacific Canbriam Energy PCE Operations - Inside RGE

Pacific Oil and Gas was rebranded to Pacific Energy to reflect the next step in its growth strategy to provide cleaner energy for North American markets and growing Asian economies. Pacific Canbriam Energy, part of Pacific Energy, also earned EO100 Standard Certification from Equitable Origin for sustainable natural gas production.

APRIL Group Solar Panels Pangkalan Kerinci

APRIL Group installed 1MW of solar panels at its operations in Pangkalan Kerinci as part of a project to install 20MW by 2025. When completed, it will be one of the largest solar installations by a private company in Indonesia.

Asian Agri Smallholders

Asian Agri distributed five billion rupiah in premiums from the sale of sustainable palm oil to smallholders in cooperatives in Riau and Jambi. The funds will be used by the cooperatives to increase productivity and enhance livelihoods.

Changjiang Rugao Nantong RGE Industrial Park

RGE kickstarted the construction of a 200ha industrial park in Changjiang town, Rugao, Nantong, China on 31 March 2021. The industrial park will house operations that produce RGE’s various products, including lyocell fabric, palm oil, and ivory board. The first phase of construction will consist of an ivory card board plant and a lyocell fabric plant.

Jakarta Fashion Hub Official Launch 2021

A collaborative space where fashion and creativity meet, the Jakarta Fashion Hub was officially launched in December 2021. On top of initiatives such as the Jakarta Fashion Hub, Asia Pacific Rayon (APR) also continues to support the growth of the Indonesian fashion industry with participation at events including the Muslim Fashion Festival, Muslim Fashion Week, and Jakarta Fashion Week.
