Tanoto Scholars in Singapore came together for an evening of networking and sharing at the Tanoto Scholars Annual Networking 2021 (TSAN2021) on December 16, 2021. Held with safe distancing measures, this marked the first in-person TSAN since 2019.
The event was organised by the Tanoto Foundation, an independent philanthropy founded by RGE Chairman Sukanto Tanoto and his wife Tinah Bingei Tanoto. Steered by its core belief that ‘quality education accelerates equal opportunity’, the Tanoto Foundation seeks to improve lives through three focus areas: Improving learning environments, developing future leaders, and supporting medical research.
TSAN2021 was graced by non-profit Business China CEO and Member of Parliament for MacPherson SMC Tin Pei Ling and National Youth Council (NYC) CEO David Chua, as well as representatives from NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University, and Singapore Management University
The event was themed ‘The Road To Resilience’ and featured a sharing and Q&A with Ms Tin, who through the sharing of her experiences as a young leader, inspired Tanoto Scholars in attendance to be resilient and to never give up.
RGE Vice Chairman and Tanoto Foundation Executive Advisor Bey Soo Khiang and Tanoto Foundation Global CEO Dr J. Satrijo Tanudjojo later presided over the scholarship award ceremony, which welcomed new Tanoto Scholars into the fold as well as new members of the Tanoto Scholars Alumni committee. In August 2021, Dr Tanudjojo and NYC’s Mr Chua met to discuss building future leaders. This conversation may be viewed on Tanoto Foundation’s YouTube channel.
Guests and scholars later participated in the formal launch of BEACON, Tanoto Foundation Singapore’s leadership development programme. BEACON, or ‘Be Engaged and Actively Contribute to the Nation’, comprises structured leadership development training, opportunities for experiential learning, networking and community service, in addition to tuition grants via scholarships. The Foundation partners three reputable Universities in Singapore (NUS, NTU, SMU) to support and steer Tanoto Scholars’ journey of growth.
