Comprising 19 international students from 11 countries, the graduates are expected to play a strong role in catalysing economic, cultural, political and developmental collaborations with governmental and inter-sectoral stakeholder participants in the Belt and Road Initiative.
At the graduation ceremony, three students from the cohort were recognised for their outstanding theses, while one clinched the honours of the school’s most outstanding student. A Foresighted Collaboration
Tanoto Foundation Global CEO Satrijo Tanudjojo congratulates Mr Imran, IMPA-BRI 2018 graduate and recipient of the Excellent Thesis Award and Most Outstanding Performance Award.
The IMPA-BRI programme is spearheaded by the collaboration between Tsinghua University School of Public Policy and Management, the Chinese Language and Culture Education Foundation of China, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Tanoto Foundation.
The inter-disciplinary course has already garnered substantial attention from diverse stakeholders that include embassies, consulates, government departments, enterprises and other universities. The collaboration is now working on enhancing the course with the aim to enrich the learning experience, while plans are in place to scale up enrollment for future editions.
Tanoto Foundation’s foresighted collaboration with the internationally renowned Tsinghua University does not end with the IMPA-BRI programme, but also extends to its support of a Master of Laws programme that focusses on cross-border investment, intellectual property rights protection and commercial arbitration. A good indication of its international appeal and relevance, the programme recently saw 14 students from 11 nations graduate.
Sustainable Development for BRI Countries
Tanoto Foundation’s support will help lay the foundations for sustainable development and sustained prosperity for Belt and Road Initiative participant countries, of which major Southeast Asian nations like Indonesia are a part. This initiative runs parallel with the Foundation’s existing human capital development programmes in building learning environments, nurturing future leaders, and supporting Asian-focused medical research.
The IMPA-BRI programme is one of many programmes under the BRI talent development initiative, funded by the Tanoto Foundation for RMB 100 million over the course of 10 years. The BRI talent development initiative aims to strengthen understanding, inclusiveness and collaboration between BRI countries, building capacities and competencies for the benefit of the region, while promoting peace, stability and development.
The programme is part of a series of collaborations between non-profit, corporate, state and educational institutions aimed at supporting the BRI’s five major goals of wider policy coordination, facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration and people-to-people bonds.
The inaugural class of the International Masters in Public Administration in the Belt and Road Initiative (IMPA-BRI) graduates.
