Asia Symbol Distributes Over 1,000 Books To Rizhao Community

Already recognised as one of the most exemplary corporate citizens in Rizhao, China, Asia Symbol continues to play a supportive and collaborative role in building communities in its operation areas.

As part of the city’s drive to promote reading, the pulp and paper producer distributed over a thousand books to the community on the morning of 21 April 2019. Members of the public received the free books, which include best-sellers and popular titles suitable for all ages.

Asia Symbol has gone the distance in helping to foster a stronger reading culture, having introduced the “Books on Buses” initiative on selected public buses. During their commute, passengers are free to browse the books, which are kept in thoughtfully designed pockets in the bus.

The Rizhao Jianghe Library, which opened in 2015.

The presence of RGE companies has brought about not only economic progress, but also growth in the social and cultural spheres. Previously, 30 million yuan (about US$4.5 million) was donated to the construction of a library, which opened in December 2015. This was followed by a donation of 5 million yuan worth of books in 2016 and a 900,000 yuan donation towards the renovation of another library in 2018.

First started in 2017, the book giveaway event is now in its third consecutive year. Well-received as a major charity event in Rizhao, the book giveaway event looks set to continue thanks to the warm support of Asia Symbol, a winner of multiple awards and accolades in corporate citizenship and social responsibility.

These community development-focused initiatives are just some of Asia Symbol’s many programmes, all of which are guided by its sustainability policy and its commitments to shared value creation, energy saving and environmental protection, and employee and community care.
